Jesus' Math

...I feel compassion...Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people? He gave thanks and broke them...they served them to the people and they ate and were satisfied, and they picked up seven large baskets full.... Mark 8: 1-9

Where do you find spiritual nourishment in a desolate place to feed a crowd?

I have felt this weight.....I'm sure most leaders have....and I think many who are not leaders can identify as well. Where? There are so many needs. My resources, my energy, my time, my wisdom is limited.

Mark tells us Jesus felt compassion. He wanted these people to be satisfied. Love compelled Him to act!

The disciples had only to bring what they had to Jesus.

Jesus blessed what they brought.

He broke what they brought and  returned it to them to serve to others.

All were satisfied.

It was more than enough.

They started with seven loaves;  after the bringing, blessing and breaking, there were seven large baskets full left.

The bringing can sting our pride but is fairly easy is one is aware of their inadequacies. The blessing we eagerly anticipate. The breaking?  Breaking can hurt. Have you been broken? Have you been broken on behalf of another?  When you've been broken by Jesus the blessing flow from your life to others.

 Jesus takes what little I have and multiplies it; He takes my great sin and erases it!

I find it ironic, with seven baskets full of loaves and fish....that they immediately find themselves on the other side of the lake with nothing but one loaf of bread (verse 14). ::snort:: 

Matthew 14 tells of another feeding incidence with more details - including the words bring, bless, break....
