Teaching Tip of the Week

Time for another teaching tip of the week - one you've probably all figured out way before me....

Punch a little hole in the top corner of your flashcards and put them on one of those little notebook rings....wala! Easy to use and all kept together....better yet....laminate them first. LOL

Today marks two months since my best friend went on an all expense paid trip to the great "overseas". Love ya, hon....1/3 of the way through this seperation. We're still proud of you and your service.
My Princess (or One of them)

One thing we like to do is find costumes on sale after Halloween (which explains the photos below if you are reading in order LOL). Today was the first day we had to look and we found these. Arielle fell in love with two - and at clearance prices I could get her both. She's a bit of a tomboy so if she wanted girly dresses for plays...I'm all for it. LOL

Anyway, she had so much fun with them this afternoon. She was twirling around, swaying in front of the mirror...it was darling. Then we talked about having a "fairy tale" or "princess" tea party in the near future. We have and have read *The Princess and the Kiss*. (Squire and the Scroll is a favorite around here too.) We like the books. We thought of using that for a theme. I went online for ideas and found out that there is a whole study based on the concepts in the book for young girls...culminating in a princess ceremony where the Moms bless the girls and the girls receive a necklace symoblizing they are God's princess and saving their purity. So NOW....I'm unsure what we should do...have a tea party or find a group of girls to study with us and have a ceremony at the end....LOL

We did the purity ring and such with the older girls...but we waited until we were SURE it was their decision and that we weren't swaying them to make a covenant that the Holy Spirit hadn't led them to. Not to debate THAT issue, but as youth pastors we have seen lots of "group think" on that issue, and it's sad. I sort of hesitate to do this because it may be sort of like her making a covenant that she doesn't understand.....but maybe not. I'll have to pray about this some more.
Every Princess needs a few Mr. Incredibles to protect her honor....seriously, Mike does train our boys to protect their sisters honor from an early age....
Glimpses from the Day...

Saddest picture of the day - everyone was going to the park and she
KNEW she was left....they grow up so fast! (Check out the Robeez shoes - thanks Lisa and Charly for the recommendation)

Mr. Incredibles run in my family (Yikes - he's STANDING on the couch! A no-no...guess they've learned to be cute and I'll grab the camera...::snort::Isn't it great when they are still young enough to take pictures like this? This stage doesn't last long....
Further Sunday Events:

Arielle got to spend a few hours with Ashley. That always makes her day.

I got to see how Lee and Tricia (Ashley's parents) have child-proofed their bookshelves. They've put bungee cords around the lower shelves so the books can't be pulled out. I came right home, tried it, and nearly took a finger off when the cord snapped. I need to find out some more info on this trick. ::ouch::

Jamin took the boys over to the local school to play. They played street hockey in the spot set up for basketball and really had a good time. After I picked Arielle up the girls and I joined them.

I realized that Nolan has grown over an inch since Mike left. The other boys all needed jeans. We made a one hour trip to the store and found 9 pairs of jeans.

I need to find a booster seat for Stacia to use at the table. She HATES the high chair and wants to be at the table...I really would like the space in the kitchen that the chair takes. I'll keep looking.

I bought some things for a Christmas package for Mike but can't talk about that here - yet. LOL

Talked with Mom on the phone. Dad had a good day out at church today. He's bored at the rehab....but doing well.

I printed off some more Thanksgiving worksheets and such. I talked over Josiah's transcript and Yearly Summary with him. I need to check and make sure that Cyberlynx didn't already give him credit for the course I put on there this year. I mean it was new work - but I need to make sure I didn't give it the same title. Then I can mail off the portfolios with 2 months to spare????

The children and I discussed some more of what we want to do for Thanksgiving....basically we want the holiday to be over and Mike and the girls to all be back home. Barring that we are brainstorming about what we really want to do. They have a plan...I need to work out details.

Parenting/Discipline in Proverbs - Chapter 5

~Great admoitions on purity in this chapter

~Once again Proverbs speaks of the instruction a parent is assumed to provide for a child/youth

~I clearly see a picture of a relationship developing here between parent and child...one of mutual honor, respect, and deep care

5:23 "He will die for lack of instruction, and in the greatness of his folly he will go astray."

~As a parent there is nothing more important than instructing/teaching/discipling the children that God has entrusted to my care.

~May I never hear that my child has gone astray for "lack of instruction".

~My instruction is designed to lead my children to a whole hearted relationship with their Creator.

Father, help me to stay engaged with my children in such a way that they will never go astray for lack of instruction. Help my instruction to be gracious and enhancing of the gifts and strengths that you have instilled in each of my children. Help me to intimately know and understand my children so that I can be the best possible parent to them.
SUNDAYS

I have a dilemma. It's always been our practice to worship as a family. (Not a big shock? LOL) I feel this is very important.

We have Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. We have church at 6:00 p.m.

Our Sunday school this year has nothing for adults or young children. They have a class that is for pre-school to second grade. Zander could go there but doesn't want to. Frankly, it's taught way above the average pre-schooler's head.

I've been taking the children and then Zander, Stacia and I retreat to Mike's office for an hour.

Today - with my back hurting - we opted to let Cy drive the children to chapel and I stayed home with the little two, so I can keep heat on my back and make it out tonight.

In discussing the issue, one of my sons suggested I teach a class for littles or adults.....and while that may seem like a natural soloution, given my bent towards teaching, God has dealt with me lots about NOT getting over-committed.

I'm currently a single parent who homeschools 6 children, teaches a weekly Bible Study, organizes a women's ministry (small though we are LOL), organizes and runs a month natural co-op and picks up for a produce group. I believe that is ALL I need to do until Mike returns.

BUT I could do more with Zander during this hour. Anyone know of an easy to implement program I could use with the littles....or I can make my own...but I'm sort of stretched right now. Then I wonder if I should go and do this in Mike's office because then Zander is not getting into the habit of staying home from church....because habits are everything to him. BUT if I'm planning and teaching my children in Mike's office - shouldn't I offer to do it for all young ones....wait...no I shouldn't.

I was thinking this was a short term problem and I shouldn't think about it - but then I realized that even when Mike returns I'll have the same dynamics with the Sunday School....except maybe Zander will be more willing to try a class with big kids if Dad is home.........
