The Mowing Machine....
*The Lazarus Trap* by Davis Bunn

I haven’t decided if Davis Bunn or Ted Dekker is my favorite “new” author. Davis Bunn writes more “plausible” plots…I mean they are more realistic whereas Ted Dekker seems to combine the suspense with the spiritual behind the scene type stores…ala Frank Peretti. I am really enjoying both.

I found this book to be a quick read. I loved all the twists to the plot and the way the author resolved the conflict. I need to see what else our library may have by these authors. I’m thoroughly enjoying my reintroduction to Christian Fiction – It’s come a long way since I quit reading it years ago. {G}
We worked HARD today.

Mike went to check on the AC for the Honda. He discovered that he needs to get some other parts fixed before they can think about the AC. Then he went to the office.

Meanwhile, back on the home front, we were working. We cleaned the whole house. That was a goal for the week. Then we started on rooms. Jamin had worked on the older boys’ room earlier in the week. Arielle worked on hers. We all pitched in on the younger boys’ room.

It had a definite odor. Their room has a walk in closet – a really big one. When we moved in we put all the toys in their closet. The kids love to create plays and so we had a lot of costumes that we hung up in there. We had cleaned it all really well in January but over the past few months it had gotten bad again. We took out two garbage bags of broken toys. We have a giant box of toys and such to go to the thrift store. We found mounds and mounds of laundry. We steam cleaned the carpets (their room and the rest of the house). We washed sheets and sprayed every surface with Fabreeze. They have fewer toys left now but they are all organized. We found THREE cases of diaper wipes in there. I’m not sure the smell is gone. We’ll see.

Mike got home for a couple of hours. I made a trip to Sam’s for more laundry soap. Mike had a combat dining in tonight. The kids and I had dinner and now the older ones are watching “The Return of the Titans”.

That’s the day.

Scooter Bites and Spiders

I sat down to update the bike ticker – yippee! I met this week’s goal. I got up bright and early and rode to the library to turn in the last books of our school year. I had quite a few thoughts to share – quite possibly profound thoughts – but I got side-tracked.

Zander is playing *Spy Kids* next to me and covered with red welts. I asked him,” What happened to you?” He replied, “Scooter bites”. A bit more questioning and observation led to the deduction that they are mosquito bites. It seems we have a bad case of scooters in our house. They fly around his bed at night when he is sleeping and DRINK HIS BLOOD!!!!!

He just now got stuck on his game and was calling for Arielle. Evidently, she isn’t responding fast enough. She’s in the bathroom. He is at the door and yelled in a sing-song voice, “Ari- Elle….there’s a spider in there.” He’s shamelessly playing on the poor girls fear. It reminds me of being chased with geckos in the Philippines. Boys.

While out riding this a.m. I was met with a scandalous site. A huge man…..gray and balding…over 6 feet tall…lots of extra baggage if you get my drift…in SPEEDO bikinis watering his yard…goodness. I couldn’t even manage a Texas wave.

I’ve been contemplating bike seats. When I bought my very cool retro Schwinn (inspired by my AK friend Carleen) I was told, by both Carleen the bike salesman, that the extra wide seat was made for comfort. Side note – my very cool retro Schwinn looks like the bike thelittle lady in Wizard of Oz with the pup in her basket rides….. on with the musings….

I suppose if you are the type of person that thinks visiting the dentist is fun, you could quite possibly think that this seat is comfortable. I’m not that type of person. I’ve been toying with the idea of buying one of those “really comfortable” gel seats for my bike. The trouble is until you TRY them out you really can’t tell how they will feel to your tush. KWIM? Fingering them in the store just won’t cut it. I can’t figure out how to try this out without SITTING on one and I really haven’t worked up the nerve to put a gel seat between my legs and waddle around Academy or plop it on the ground and sit on it. I’d thought it might make a nice reward for reaching 250 miles. I don’t think I’ve developed the calluses on said body parts that I was told would develop if I faithfully rode the bike.

Well, well – I’m sure I had profound thoughts to share but they all seemed to have escaped. I’ll quit right here.

*The Crepes of Wrath* - Tamar Myers

I finished this book week before last but never got around to listing it.

This book provides a little more insight into the Amish and Mennonite communities. I’m quite sure, however, that this is not a totally “normal” portrayal of those communities. This was another wacky, Penn Dutch Inn mystery. Mags seems to be drifting towards being as eccentric as her sister. {G}

One little twist in this book that I loved was when Dr. Rosen mentions to Mags that he’s reading a great book by his favorite mystery author named Ramat Sreym. He recounts that she grew up in the Belgian Congo and has written a wonderful memoir. It was “at least as good as *Angela’s Ashes*. Alas, Ramat was unable to get her memoir published until she left a veiled plea in one of her mystery books for her fans to write her publisher and request that they publish the book. {bg} I, personally would love to read a book about Tamar growing up in the Belgian Conga as a missionary kid. I may write the publisher.
