Making spaghetti sauce....see the big stock pot? Anyway - a LOT of onions to cut up by hand....Jamin suggested goggles when the smell began to make all of THEIR eyes water...they were across the room....
Let's see since I'm here and this was such a hectic day, I'll quickly recap. Tomorrow will be even more hectic...I'm tired NOW thinking about it. I have 7 appointments tomorrow....WHY?
The a.m. was completely filled with school. We finished a couple of books and started some new ones. Since we had nothing 0n the calendar for the afternoon I had plans to: bake bread and buns, bake muffins, make spaghetti sauce, make granola and make salad dressings.
Jamin and Jared had been compiling a list of a few school things we needed. I KNEW if I didn't get them today we wouldn't have them until Friday. I thought I could run out and get all I needed....but I ended up having to go to three stores. The last store was a teaching store called The Learning Lane. I need to go back and spend more time there. I was looking for a lesson planner/daily log for Jamin. The one we get from NARHS didn't have enough subjects listed...I could NOT believe that no one had one of these. The Learning Lane had some for classroom use that I could adapt but then I saw a shelf of Apologia text books. I headed over and they had The Home School Planner.....The elementary one had more spots for subjects so I grabbed it for Jamin. I'm going to go online and see the "family" planner and "unit study" planner.....maybe.....I didn't get home until 5:45.....so we threw together burritoes for dinner. We didn't go on a walk. I made spaghetti sauce. Josiah got home from work, we all visited a bit and everyone but Zander and Stacia went down.
While making sauce I cut the same thumb, with the same knife, in the same spot....but not nearly as bad. That and the noxious onion fumes have finally almost convinced me to get the slicer/shredder attachment for the Bosch.
We did nothing exciting today - kept busy and do feel good about the day.

Ahh! My eyes are watering, lol. Just kidding. Recipies? Muffins, etc? That would be nice. BTW, have you looked at www.donnayoung.org to see if she had planners that you could use or put into word and add more columns? Then you could have it bound....Just a thought.

Beth - recipes coming...yes I have planners ON my HARD DRIVE...but I can't get my printer to print!!!! Jamin was insisting he needed something NOW. LOL I'd still like to custom make something but he may have it all filled out by the time I get my printer to print again! LOL I forgot to mention that THAT is why I HAD To find a planner rather than simply printing out a sheet or two. LOL

As for the knives - ack.

Did the goggles really help?

Oh you are more accident prone than me I think! I hope your finger heals up quickly. I managed to burn the tip of one finger while cooking today. It's always something!

Gosh, De'Etta...you didnt do anything today. I get tired just eading your posts.

I have fond memories of my mom with swim goggles on, while cutting onions to make pickles.

Watch those knives.

Well join the ranks I am in these days........hurting yourself... no good reason......bumping into anything that dare be in the way...
having a major stare down with an emotionally Mexican student while she gets part way into a melt-down.......thank God for His answers to prayers sent His way in an emergency...... it all came out OK and I didn't have to budge at all.... went back to class with her and she was super great. She is just a bit shorter than me and about 300 lbs. PTL He handled it just great.

Goodness the energy you have or the push yourself to the end.......

OK all - please note I said I had PLANS to make all those things...the only thing that actually got made was the spaghetti sauce.

I mixed up the 7 grain mix today (though it is 6 grain because the oat groats have mysteriously disappeared) - but I can't figure out how to mix a 7 gal bucket of this stuff. . . it's heavy! :::snort:::

Yes, the goggles DID seem to work - I think I'll go buy my very own pair of kitchen goggles next year. The kids are thinking that it sounds like a good idea to buy the Bosch attachment.

I AM accident prone. The irony of this situation is that Jamin has me convinced I should sharpen my knife after every use - and that is why it is so nice and sharp. LOL

Did you have your eyes open? I ALWAYS close my eyes when I'm cutting onions and the kids always wonder how I can do that without cutting myself. I cut VERY SLOWLY and tell them to NEVER try it, but it helps to keep the eye burning fumes out of my eyes. I've also heard that burning a candle helps, but I always forget to try that until after my eyes have been affected.

As for the planner. Does he want a school planner? One of the gals in our co-op has tweaked the one that comes with TOG and then I tweaked it some more to fit us. I can send you that to get you started if you'd like. It's in EXCEL and it's WAY COOL. This friend of mine is SO GOOD with spreadsheets.

Cindy,

My eyes were open! The problem is that my mouth was also open. LOL

As for the planner, I'd love to see what your friend came up with. I am still working to get the printer running.

I love the NARHS planner...it has spots for tracking time etc. The problem is that it has 8 subjects and he's taking 11 subjects.

Lisa in Jax said...

Could you just put the extra subjects into their own planner? You could just use the Nars planner for 8 subjects and then use another planner for the 3 extra. I know that means keeping track of 2 planners but at least everything would fit and if he decides to add something else, you'll have room.lol

I also keep my knives very sharp, that's how I ended up with my finger needing to be glued shut on moving day.lol Never try to get fancy with a knife while trying to remove an avacado seed.(ugh) I have to say though that that New Skin stuff really works! I glued myself shut and finished moving us in. No need for the ER.lol

I think if I tried to chop anything with my eyes shut I'd do more than slice a finger, LOL. I AM going to try the goggles next time though, I don't know why I never thought of that we have lots of goggles around here. Glad you posted that fun picture!

Now my thoughts are that you should stick to dull knives or better yet get the attachment!

Lisa,

We started with two planners but that seems like such a WASTE of one of the planners. LOL It was also cumbersome for him to have two planners....he'd like one. I understand. The Homeschool Planner I bought him will work.....I liked the planner so well I am actually thinking about using a planner this year....typically I simply use the SL or TOG schedule as my planner. LOL

It may be to late for you to be reading any comments.......... BUT you are also one bundle of huggable joy. Man, all the food looks great.

People at work LATELY would say they know where you get being accident prone from, me. :) Seems this year I am changing to be the super clutz of the staff. :)

I LOVE the goggles! It makes me think of a time when I was a kid and my parents decided to grind their own horseradish! They borrowed GAS MASKS from my brother and a friend who were in the Army Reserves and used them. They burned out the mnotor on our blender, too. I was in my bedroom with the door shut and I was "uncomfortable" because of the fumes!!!

Oh Barbara,

We HAVE gas masks around here! I'll have to try that next time. LOL
